SUCCESS AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

According to recent research the IQ (Intelligence Quotient) has been proven to bring only 20% of significant agents to achieve success. This entails that the other 80% depend on other sort of agents.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION

“Students´ emotional attitude determines their ability at learning”, as Plato stated 2,000 years ago. A long way has been done since then, and yet we must improve our capacity to handle emotions properly and to teach our learners to improve as well.

WHICH REQUISITS DO FIRMS REQUEST IN THE RECRUITING PROCESS?

80% of job offers display the need for one or two foreign languages when it comes to business negotiation and exports. The most requested languages are English and German. French, Chinese, Arabic or Russian appear afterwards.

65% of Spanish candidates are not able to hold an interview in English. Most Spanish students study this language during their school years and stop learning it in their quest for labour issues ahead.

Thus, it is highly recommended not to quit the language, to try to maintain the level of Grammar achieved and see to apply it to their speaking skills, which will be, in the long term, the cornerstone to set the difference among candidates during the recruiting process.

A certificate may open doors ahead, but the ability to prove our skills will certainly open the door to the future in the labour world.

REFLECTION ON CHILDREN´S EDUCATION: EDUCATING EMOTIONS

Emotional Intelligence is a great deal of talk. However, this concept is not yet, generally speaking, applied nor at school nor at home when it comes to educating children and teens.

To start applying it step by step, a change of mentality will be necessary in parents as well as in teachers. The first step has to do with the change of the approach of easy questions suchlike: How was your day? How about your grades?

THIRTY YEARS TEACHING LANGUAGES

Technical College started due to the fact lots of acquaintances requested for English lessons in the 80´s for them to be able to express using the language of Shakespeare.

The formal education of those days did not teach the learners to understand nor to speak English. It was related to the teaching of grammar and vocabulary instead. Therefore lots of parents and professionals were interested in lessons in which ONLY ENGLISH SPOKEN would be the method and in which the information learnt would be actually useful to communicate in the real world and not only in the classroom.

Do you like learning English?

English students do not come to their English lessons like blank sheets of paper. They already have views about and attitudes towards learning English. These attitudes are formed by the social environment in which they grow up and by the people around them. It is important to be aware of these attitudes as they can influence pupils desire and motivation to learn English.

Learning English Having Fun

Children have a great capacity to enjoy themselves.

When they are enjoying themselves, they are usually absorbed by the activity and want to continue with it. They are not always aware they are learning a language.

USING LANGUAGE CREATIVELY

Children actively try to experiment and work the rulers of the language in their heads, though they may not be aware of doing this.

The activity which the pupils carry out in their classroom and the discussion afterwards allowed them the freedom  to be creative and go beyond what they have learned. The teacher invited pupils to say what they felt, when the pupils spoke the teacher showed interest and was supportive.

We throw some tiles with letters into the pool, the kids have to look for them while they dive and then they have to build words.

In this picture we can see the Red Sox ready to dive!
